Half Acre Beer Company became known to me a few years ago due to their amazing label art. I’ve admitted before that I’ve been known to judge a beer by its cover, and Half Acre has some of the best in the business. Just check out their website and try to tell me I’m wrong (http://halfacrebeer.com/beer/). It also doesn’t hurt that their flagship beer is consider one of the best in its style. Which brings us to today’s review.

Ever since I moved out of North Hollywood I don’t go to Karl Strauss Brewery as often as I’d like. Once in a while I’ll make my way back to Citywalk with hopes of trying a new beer or two. I found myself at Karl Strauss this past Wednesday and they had a couple of beers on tap that caught my eye. There was a couple big guys on the beer board, so I decided to start it simple and go with a Pale Ale.
CITYWALK PALE ALE is an American Pale Ale.

Pale Ales are always a good way to kick off a night of drinking. They’re usually flavorful, but not too big. Have just enough booze, without getting you drunk after one beer. And give you a little blast of hoppy goodness to wake up your palate. PANTS OPTIONAL PALE ALE has all this plus the benefit of an awesome name.
Pants Optional is an American Pale Ale with a 6.6% ABV.

For this round I wanted something more “drinkable” to go with my meal. I saw HAPPY HOPS on the board and thought, “A pale ale? That would go splendidly with my meal!”. And it was.
Happy Hops is a mixture of a blonde ale and a pale ale. This hard to categorize brew has an easy-drinking 5.56% ABV.

After the big hop bombs at Silver Moon and the chocolate sweetness of Afterschool Special, I was looking for something mild to finish off the night. I decided a nice little American Pale Ale would be a great way to close out the night at Deschutes. Being that their Mirror Pond Pale Ale is so tasty I figured that their Spencer’s Gold would be equally as fantastic. Well, I was half right. Spencer’s Gold is a mild beer with 45 IBUs and a simple 4.5% ABV. Continue reading
