Pale Ales are always a good way to kick off a night of drinking. They’re usually flavorful, but not too big. Have just enough booze, without getting you drunk after one beer. And give you a little blast of hoppy goodness to wake up your palate. PANTS OPTIONAL PALE ALE has all this plus the benefit of an awesome name.
Pants Optional is an American Pale Ale with a 6.6% ABV.
Just like any good Pale Ale, Pants Optional pours a delicious copper color. It’s light on the bottom and dark on the top. Bubbles push up toward the murky film. A coat of lacing rings the glass.
The nose is big and dank. Hemp is very forward in the nose. Bread dough and slight floral notes are also present, but you never forget about the dankiness. It really smells awesome.
Taste is just as hempy as the nose would lead you to believe. It’s also very floral and grassy. Tastes like you’re drinking nature. A faint hint of honey dough appears at the end. It’s a very big Pale Ale; one that would occasionally garner the XPA style designation.
Mouthfeel is lightish and dry. It evaporates quickly and leaves an above average (for a Pale Ale) amount of stickiness behind.
Well, this weekend is off to a good start. Pants Optional is a nicely balanced, hempy Pale Ale to start a weekend full of beer. Let’s hope they can all be this good.
