Pumking (Southern Tier Brewing)


With two less than spectacular sour pumpkin beers under my belt I decided it was time to try I beer that I’ve been looking forward to for a couple years now. Ever since I first discovered New York’s Southern Tier Brewing Company I’ve made it my mission to try every one of their beers that I can get my hands on. So when I saw that the GPBF was serving their autumn seasonal PUMKING I knew it had to be one of my first beers of the day. Unearthly (Southern Tier Brewing)

Every time I go back to the Midwest I make sure to try at least one new (to me) Southern Tier beer. The last time I was back I picked up a 22 oz. bottle of their Imperial IPA, Unearthly. Unearthly is another beer in Southern Tier’s Imperial line; this one is available year-round and has 9.5% ABV.

Three Philosophers 2009 (Brewery Ommegang)

Three Philosophers is one of the year-round ales from Cooperstown, New York’s Brewery Ommegang. The bottle refers to this Belgian Quadrupel  as “98% ale – 2% with cherries added”.  This bottle was probably about 9 months old when I consumed it (it was from 2009), but the original ABV is an enlightening 9.8% ABV.

Double White (Southampton Publick House)

Double White is the signature beer from New York’s Southampton Publick House.  This double strength witbier has a meager 18 IBUs and an easy drinking 6.6% ABV.

Hopfen-Weisse (Schneider-Brooklyner)

Hopfen-Weisse is part of a collaboration between Germany’s Schneider Brewery and New York’s Brooklyn Brewing Company.  Each brewery made this beer using the same recipe, but locally grown ingredients.  This review is for the Schneider version and it has a 8.2% ABV.
