Half Acre Beer Company became known to me a few years ago due to their amazing label art. I’ve admitted before that I’ve been known to judge a beer by its cover, and Half Acre has some of the best in the business. Just check out their website and try to tell me I’m wrong (http://halfacrebeer.com/beer/). It also doesn’t hurt that their flagship beer is consider one of the best in its style. Being that their Mirror Pond Pale Ale is so tasty I figured that their Spencer’s Gold would be equally as fantastic. Well, I was half right. Spencer’s Gold is a mild beer with 45 IBUs and a simple 4.5% ABV. Continue reading

Yellowtail Pale Ale (Ballast Point)

Yellowtail is a pale ale brewed in the Kolsch style (only beers brewed in Cologne, Germany can officially claim the “Kolsch” name).   Kolschs are known for their hoppiness and for being top-fermented (a.k.a. lagered), and the Yellowtail Pale Ale fits the bill. Continue reading
