Chocolate Porter (Hangar 24 Craft Brewery)

Hangar 24 is a brewery that I quite enjoy. However, I don’t really buy their stuff all that often. I’m more than happy to make the 90+ minute drive to the brewery whenever they’re having a special event, but I tend to avoid their beer when I see them on tap/shelves. I purchased this beer when we were trying to put together a home brew recipe for a porter we were thinking of brewing. We ended up going more of a stout route, so this beer didn’t get drank on recipe night. That just means more beer for me.

Hangar 24 Chocolate Porter labelHangar 24 CHOCOLATE PORTER is an American Porter with an 8% ABV.

Black Butte Porter (Deschutes Brewing)

It’s odd to think of how many times over the years I’ve had Black Butte Porter and yet I’ve never written a review for it. I’ve reviewed the Black Butte XXIII, but never the o.g. version. The time has come to remedy this problem.

Portamarillo (Dogfish Head Craft Brewery & Epic Brewing Company)

I have a problem. I’m a beer hoarder. I’ll see a limited release or one-off beer at the beer store and I’ll buy it. I may not have any plan to drink the beer any time soon, but the thought of missing out on what could be my favorite beer of all time is too much to pass up. That being said, I’m going to start cleaning out my “beer cellar” and writing reviews of these beers. Here’s beer number 1.

Black Butte XXIII (Deschutes Brewing)

After having ordered a Stone Sublimely Self Righteous to go with my buffalo burger (which was splendid), I wanted something a little more rich for my after dinner beer. I scanned the beer menu and saw that they had Deschutes Brewery’s BLACK BUTTE XXIII on tap. I’m a big fan of the regular Black Butte and have wanted to try the “special edition” for a while now. Finally I had my chance.

Black Butte XXIII is an American Porter with an 11% ABV and 55 IBUs.

Coffee Monster (Port Brewing/Pizza Port)

I’ll admit that I’m not the biggest Porter expert. I do enjoy one every once in a while, but I usually avoid them in social situations because of their heavy bodies. However, sometimes a chocolatey, coffee-filled beast is just what the doctor ordered.

COFFEE MONSTER is an American Porter with a 9% ABV.
