It’s time for another MONDAY MORNING QUARTERBACK and today we’re heading back to sunny San Diego, California. Being that I live in close proximity to SD, I have access to numerous beers from various local breweries. So for today’s review I decided to go with a beer I’ve never had from a brewery I’ve never tried before.

I took a trip up north last week for some much-needed R’n’R. I didn’t really have much planned on this trip, but I did know that I wanted to stop into Kern River Brewing Company for lunch on the way. And of course while I’m there I had to have a beer. This is the one I chose.
Just to give you an idea of how far behind I am in my beer reviews this beer was purchased and consumed on the 4th of July. Yup, almost 2 whole months ago. What’s the point of buying holiday themed beers if you’re not going to review them on/around said holiday? I don’t know. And after years of doing this blog I still fall into the same trappings. I’ll admit, I judge books by their covers. A lot of my beer purchases are made because of a cool label/logo/name. This is why I often overlook Green Flash’s beers. I’m well aware of the fact that they make great beers, but their presentation leaves a lot to be desired. I went against this thinking recently and picked up a four-pack of their new(ish) Double IPA.
When I first tried this beer I was three sheets to the wind. All I remembered about it was how forward the grapefruit flavors were and that I loved every drop of the pint I had ordered. Flash forward about 3 years and I’ve finally picked up a bottle for review. Let’s see if this beer lives up to the memories.

I’ve went on and one about my love for New Belgium and their Lips of Faith series, so I’ll refrain from beating that horse again. What I will talk about his the folks over at Alpine Beer Company. For the past couple years their IPAs have been garnering quite a bit of attention from the craft beer world. However, with all that hoopla surrounding them I had never tried one of their beers. Until now.
SUPER INDIA PALE ALE is a collaborative effort from Colorado’s New Belgium Brewery and California’s Alpine Beer Company. This Imperial IPA has a hefty 9% ABV.
