Week 3 of MONDAY MORNING QUARTERBACK takes us to the Mile High City of Denver, Colorado. Great Divide Brewery has been serving the people of Denver for almost 20 years and in that time they made quite a few fantastic brews. Today we’ll be discussing their multiple award winning Old Ale.

I picked up this beer in a Great Divide mix-pack. Mix-packs are one of my favorite ways of discovering beers that I’ve never tried before and/or would never buy on their own. This is one of those cases. It wasn’t until recently that I made the choice to start trying more lagers. Traditionally, I felt that the brewing process retarded the brewers ability to create a unique and flavorful beer, but I’m starting to see the error of my ways.
Even though I have yet to have a beer from Great Divide really knock my socks off, they’re consistent enough to keep me coming back. That and they have awesome labels. For their spring seasonal they went with a fitting saison/farmhouse ale.
COLETTE is a Saison/Farmhouse Ale with a 7.3% ABV.
I’ve had an affinity for Double IPAs for a while now, but it wasn’t until last year that I tried my first wood/oak aged DIPA. I was instantly hooked! Now add that to the fact that Great Divide makes some pretty good beers and have a great visual brand and I knew I had to purchase their 17th ANNIVERSARY WOOD AGED DOUBLE IPA.
17th Anniversary is a Double/Imperial IPA with a hearty 10% ABV.
I’ve been a fan of IPAs for a while now and am always on the lookout for a new one to try. There are certain hops that will catch my attention when perusing IPAs (Citra, Nelson Sauvin, etc.), but what really gets my attention is oak aging. I could be wrong, but I think that RUMBLE is the first non-Imperial IPA I’ve had that was oak aged.
Rumble is a seasonal offering from Great Divide Brewing. This India Pale Ale has a 7.1% ABV.
Claymore Scotch Ale is a Scotch Ale/Wee Heavy from Denver’s Great Divide Brewery. This rotating release has a 7.7% ABV.
