I had been wanting to try some of the many colorful ales from Three Floyds for quite awhile now, but being on the West Coast they aren’t readily available out here. The last time I went back to the Midwest I stopped into an Indiana liquor store and found several different bottles of Three Floyds’ brew on the shelves. The bad ass wolf on the label grabbed my attention and the fact that it was an Imperial IPA sealed the deal, I must buy this beer. I’m quite glad I did.
ARCTIC PANZER WOLF is Double/Imperial IPA with 100 IBUs and a hearty 9.5% ABV. This beer is available year-round.
This past Friday marked the release of Kern River Brewing Company’s CITRA DOUBLE IPA. In honor of that glorious event, my roommates and I jumped in the car and made the 2 1/2 hour trek into central California. We arrived around 3:30 in the afternoon and were glad to see that the bar/restaurant was relatively empty. Soon we were seated and I had my first glass of Citra ordered. Sadly, I was unable to purchase any bottles to take home since they had sold out at 11:30. Boo. So, I ordered a second glass and made sure to take notes there at the bar, instead of at home (like I had originally planned).
Citrus DIPA is a limited release Double IPA with an 8% ABV.
Back in February my roommate and I were kicking around the idea of making the drive to Santa Rosa, California for the release of PLINY THE YOUNGER. Due to timing and financial reasons we weren’t able to make the trip. Cut to a couple of weeks ago and I started hearing about The Younger popping up in the LA area, but I always kept just missing out (tickets were sold out, heard about the event the day after, etc.). Finally, I caught wind of Pliny the Younger being on tap at Lucky Baldwin’s in Pasadena and we could actually attend! So yesterday we drove to Pasadena at 10 in the morning got a table, one hour later we had our tickets, two hours after that we finally had glasses of Pliny the Younger. Did it live up to the hype?
Pliny the Younger is the #1 beer in the world according to Beer Advocate. This Triple IPA (aka Imperial IPA) is extremely rare, has an unknown amount of IBUs and a beefy 11% ABV. Continue reading
