I’ve went on and one about my love for New Belgium and their Lips of Faith series, so I’ll refrain from beating that horse again. What I will talk about his the folks over at Alpine Beer Company. For the past couple years their IPAs have been garnering quite a bit of attention from the craft beer world. However, with all that hoopla surrounding them I had never tried one of their beers. Until now.
SUPER INDIA PALE ALE is a collaborative effort from Colorado’s New Belgium Brewery and California’s Alpine Beer Company. This Imperial IPA has a hefty 9% ABV.
After knocking out their standard IPA I figured it was time to take things up a notch and go with their Double IPA.
DOUBLE ELIMINATION is a Double IPA with a 10% ABV.
My first beer of the Hangar 24 4th Anniversary Celebration was a beer from their Local Fields Series.
ESSENCE is an Imperial IPA with an 8.5% ABV and 75 IBUs.
I’ve had an affinity for Double IPAs for a while now, but it wasn’t until last year that I tried my first wood/oak aged DIPA. I was instantly hooked! Now add that to the fact that Great Divide makes some pretty good beers and have a great visual brand and I knew I had to purchase their 17th ANNIVERSARY WOOD AGED DOUBLE IPA.
17th Anniversary is a Double/Imperial IPA with a hearty 10% ABV.
This past Friday marked the release of Kern River Brewing Company’s CITRA DOUBLE IPA. In honor of that glorious event, my roommates and I jumped in the car and made the 2 1/2 hour trek into central California. We arrived around 3:30 in the afternoon and were glad to see that the bar/restaurant was relatively empty. Soon we were seated and I had my first glass of Citra ordered. Sadly, I was unable to purchase any bottles to take home since they had sold out at 11:30. Boo. So, I ordered a second glass and made sure to take notes there at the bar, instead of at home (like I had originally planned).
Citrus DIPA is a limited release Double IPA with an 8% ABV.
Every time I go back to the Midwest I make sure to try at least one new (to me) Southern Tier beer. The last time I was back I picked up a 22 oz. bottle of their Imperial IPA, Unearthly. Unearthly is another beer in Southern Tier’s Imperial line; this one is available year-round and has 9.5% ABV.
