CHRISTMAS IN JULY Beer #3: BARREL AGED BRRRBON
Brrrbon is part of the Widmer Bros. Reserve Series and a beer I knew I must try from the moment I saw it. As you may or may not remember, the Widmer winter season BRRR was one of my favorite winter releases I sampled last year. Needless to say, a bourbon barrel aged version of that beer was something that intrigued me to no end and something that I must buy. And buy I did. Brrbon was beer #3 in the Limited Release series and clocks in at a respectable 9.4% ABV.
CHRISTMAS IN JULY Beer #2: PARROT IN A PALM TREE
My roommate was singing the praises of this beer ever since he had it back in December. In February I happened to stumble upon a bottle sitting on the shelf at Bevmo (the last one I might add), so I knew I had to either pick it up now or wait another 10 months to try it. You’ll never guess what I decided to do. Parrot in a Palm Tree is a Baltic Porter with 35 IBUs and an 8.5% ABV. This is the first beer in Karl Strauss’s “Twelve Days of Christmas San Diego Style” series and was released in November of 2010.
CHRISTMAS IN JULY Beer #1: NOEL DE CALABAZA
This beer was given to me as a Christmas present and had been setting in my fridge waiting for me ever since. A couple of weeks back I decided to crack it open and have a taste of my very first Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ale. Noel de Calabaza is a Belgian Strong Dark Ale that is released in December and comes in at a belly warming 9% ABV.
Theme week is back here at Ales in Comparison, with July’s theme being “CHRISTMAS IN JULY”! I’ll be posting reviews of either Christmas/winter releases or beers that I received as Christmas gifts. Some will be reviews that have been sitting around for a few months and others are beers that I’ve just recently cracked open.
Keeping checking back over the next few days to read all of the “CHRISTMAS IN JULY” reviews!
