Blazing World (Modern Times Beer)

Modern Times has recently blazed on to the craft beer scene. And before you ask, yes, I hate myself as much as you hate me for that horrendous turn of phrase. Buzz about the quality of their products had been growing exponentially online, but it wasn’t until a few months ago that their beers actually started showing up in my neck of the woods (Los Angeles). Factor in my growing love for canned beers and I knew I had to pick up a four-pack as soon as I saw it. This wasn’t the first Modern Times beer I’d had, but this one will get the first review.

Blazing World labelBLAZING WORLD is a hoppy Amber Ale with 85 IBUs and a 6.8% ABV.

Carlsbad Chronic (Port Brewing/Pizza Port)

I wanted something “smaller” for my final beer of the night since it had been a long and eventful day. Amber Ales are traditionally aren’t known for being big or in your face, so they lend themselves to being great beginning/ending beers. This time was no different.

CARLSBAD CHRONIC is an American Amber Ale with a sessionable 5% ABV.

BEER #4: SIDE CAR

Side Car Amber was the last beer on the list that I hadn’t had before or isn’t readily available, so it was my beer number four. This Amber Ale had a not too shabby 5.4% ABV.

Pursuit of Hoppiness (Grand Teton Brewing Co.)

Pursuit of Hoppiness is an American Red Ale originally brewed as part of Grand Teton’s 2009 “Cellar Reserve Series“. This bottle-conditioned ale has a huge (for the style ) 100 IBUs and an 8% ABV.

Fall Summit Ale is the autumn seasonal from Maine’s Peak Organic Brewing.  Like all of Peak’s brews, Fall Summit is certified organic and clocks in with 64 IBUs and an ABV of 5.7%.

Day 5 brings us a style of beer that I had never heard of before, the ESPRESSO AMBER ALE.

Espresso Amber Ale is a certified organic beer from Portland, Maine’s Peak Organic.  It clocks in at 7% ABV and has 22 IBUs.
