Modern Times has recently blazed on to the craft beer scene. And before you ask, yes, I hate myself as much as you hate me for that horrendous turn of phrase. Buzz about the quality of their products had been growing exponentially online, but it wasn’t until a few months ago that their beers actually started showing up in my neck of the woods (Los Angeles). Factor in my growing love for canned beers and I knew I had to pick up a four-pack as soon as I saw it. This wasn’t the first Modern Times beer I’d had, but this one will get the first review.

I wanted something “smaller” for my final beer of the night since it had been a long and eventful day. Amber Ales are traditionally aren’t known for being big or in your face, so they lend themselves to being great beginning/ending beers. This time was no different.
CARLSBAD CHRONIC is an American Amber Ale with a sessionable 5% ABV.
BEER #4: SIDE CAR
Pursuit of Hoppiness is an American Red Ale originally brewed as part of Grand Teton’s 2009 “Cellar Reserve Series“. This bottle-conditioned ale has a huge (for the style ) 100 IBUs and an 8% ABV.
Day 5 brings us a style of beer that I had never heard of before, the ESPRESSO AMBER ALE.
Espresso Amber Ale is a certified organic beer from Portland, Maine’s Peak Organic. It clocks in at 7% ABV and has 22 IBUs.
