Sour #4 (Bootlegger’s Brewery)

After making a little detour to score a pour of Imperial Phoenix, I made my way back to the world of sours. SOUR #4 was my third beer of the day.

Sour #4 is another American Wild Ale.

**Still no information available online.**

Sour #4 pours an ice tea/almond brown. Orangish highlights appear when held to the light. No real head or lacing.

Nose is tart, tart, tart. Pear, apple and green banana flavors pop in the scent. An old foot funkiness is also present and most likely from the wild yeast in the beer.

When I took my first sip I instantly thought of Sweettarts candy. Pear is the dominate flavor, but green banana and green apple are both present and detectable. Sour #4 is very sour and also very good.

Mouthfeel is light and “bright”. It’s similar to drinking an apple juice, with that fresh fruit acidity. A stickiness is left behind after each sip.

I really like this beer. The flavors were well put together and sour, but not too sour. The inclusion of pear was a nice touch and something that I haven’t seen featured in a beer before. Sour #4 is a winner.

Overall: 8.5 out of 10

As an AMERICAN WILD ALE: 8.5 out of 10
