Punk’n Bbomb (Fremont Brewing)

As soon as I saw that this beer was aged in bourbon barrels I knew I had to give it a try. I couldn’t find the ABV for Punk’n Bbomb anywhere in the event guide or online. Hmmm…

Take one part Abominable Winter Ale, age for 6 months in 20 year-old bourbon barrels, add roasted pumpkin flesh, add secret blend of cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and shake. Beer done.

Punk’n Bbomb pours a deep brown with auburn highlights. Head starts as a half-inch of foam, but it fades to just a ring and some film. You can’t see them in the beer, but occasionally a bubble will break on the surface.

The nose is big on bourbon with hints of cinnamon toast and nutmeg. As it warms a cinnamon roll sweet scene takes over.

Taste is very interesting. It starts with a bourbon bite that quickly recedes into a cinnamon slickness, before fading into a creamy coffee sweetness. A burnt roastiness rounds it out.

Mouthfeel is medium to thick, as you would expect from the description of this beer. It goes down easy, but the bourbon reminds you it’s there the entire time.

Punk’n Bbomb was a winner. The bourbon and cinnamon went together surprisingly well to make a sweet, but strong concoction. One of the highlights of the day.

Overall: 7.5 out of 10

As a WINTER WARMER: 8 out of 10
