After being distracted by a craft beer-fueled going away party and the God of Thunder, it’s finally time for beer #6. This beer was quite unique (at least unique to me) in that it uses Habanero peppers to add an extra “kick”. This picante pale ale has a grande 8% ABV.
Hoppy ale brewed with Habanero (spicy).
Hopinero pours a murky marigold with a manilla crown. Plenty of lacing is left behind when the 1/2 inch of foam finally recedes.
I knew I was gonna like this beer on the first whiff. Fresh cut grass, butter, Habanero and piney hops are all present and accounted for. Very delectable, very inviting.
My mouth is on fire! The pine hops hit first, but quickly give way to the spicy Habanero. The pepper dominates your taste buds and sadly keeps any other flavors from really making their presence known.
Mouthfeel is light and drying. The pepper ruins your mouth and throat, leaving your entire esophagus feeling scorched.
Don’t let the above impressions fool you, this is a fantastic beer…but not one that I could drink very often. It’s one of the spiciest beers I’ve ever had, but damn if it’s not flavorful!
Overall: 7.5 out of 10
As an CHILE BEER: 8 out of 10
