With the winter season winding down I figured it was time to post all the seasonal reviews I have lying around. So, today I bring you my review for Bison Brewing Company’s organic winter seasonal Gingerbread Ale! This herb/spiced beer has a 6% ABV.
Our Spiced holiday porter is brewed with ginger, nutmeg and a touch of cinnamon, yielding the aroma of fresh backed gingerbread men! The chewy dark malt flavors are sure to smooth out that dinner with the in-laws.
Gingerbread Ale pours a deep brown with a foamy 1 1/2 inch head. The head eventually fades to a film, but it leaves behind a reminder in the form of the heavy lacing that covers the sides of the glass. It looks exactly like a cola.
Smells of cocoa powder, gingerbread, faint peppermint and molasses.
As one would expect from a beer titled Gingerbread Ale, gingerbread comes through big in the forefront of the taste. The ginger slowly fades into a mild dark chocolate sweetness. I also picked up light oat flavors in the backend.
Mouthfeel is light and creamy. It dries up quickly and leaves a slight residue in your mouth. An acidic taste appears as the beer warms, but thankfully it isn’t too distracting.
Gingerbread Ale is a unique beer, but definitely not something you could drink everyday. It makes for a great Christmas Eve sipper and the four-pack makes for just the right amount of beer.
