London Porter captures the flavors of the original entire brews perfectly, although you won’t find a cloudy pint these days! Smooth, rich, and strong (5.4% alcohol by volume), London Porter is brewed from a blend of Brown, Crystal and Chocolate malts for a creamy delivery balanced by traditional Fuggles hops. Definitely worth a sip if you fancy something stronger and darker than coffee!
London Porter pours a deep, dark brown that doesn’t let any light through. The head starts off as an inch of cream-colored foam, but quickly fades to a thin film. There is practically no lacing left on the glass.
The nose of this beer is full of chocolate. I picked up chocolate malt and baker’s chocolate notes. There was also an underlying hint of coconut, or so I thought.
Dark chocolate is the name of the game when it comes to flavor. It’s smooth and sweet, and thankfully the malts balance out the bitterness that is usually associated with baker’s chocolate. There is also a slight smokiness that rounds out the backend. I could have sworn that I picked up cola notes.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, clings to your gums and dries as it goes down. An enjoyable drinking experience.
Fuller’s London Porter is a pretty darn good representation of an English Porter. This smokey, chocolatey beer goes down easy and leaves you wanting another tasty gulp. Delicious.
