Saison Du Buff (Stone/Victory/Dogfish Head)

Saison Du Buff is part of Stone Brewing’s Collaboration Series.  This saison was brewed in part with Dogfish Head and Victory Brewing Company.  It clocks in at 6.8% ABV.

Fun fact: BUFF stands for Brewers United for Freedom of Flavor.

Dogfish Head / Victory / Stone, Saison du BUFF is a 6% alc/vol Saison brewed with parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. This beer will be brewed three times, once at each brewery using the same recipe.

SdB pours a pale straw color.  There’s a lot of carbonation that floats up to an inch tall crème brulee-colored head.  Lacing is present and thick.

This is an insanely unique smelling beer. I picked up notes of pine, grapefruit, straw, basil and pesto.

Wow. A lot of these scents come through in the flavor. Generically speaking, the taste is spicy, light and fizzy.  To be more specific, I tasted piney hops, pesto, parsley and pepper, with a sweet grapefruit-like backbone.

The mouthfeel is fizzy, drying and sticky.  But not of these things are too distracting.

This is one of the tastiest saisons I’ve had!  The pesto flavors are a first in my beer tasting experiences.  An interesting beer, but the spiciness/drying keeps it from being a session beer.

Overall: 8 out of 10

As a SAISON: 8.5 out of 10
